American muscle cars first lit up roads in the late 1940s. With the 1950s came the Chevrolet Corvette, as well as other iconic American hot rods, but it wasn’t until the 1960s when the Pontiac GTO and Ford Mustang rolled off assembly lines that American muscle cars solidified their place in history. American muscle cars are unmistakable; they signify power, pride and success. But the raw, gas-loving, American muscle cars of the past aren’t always practical today.
Fortunately, American muscle cars have evolved. Today’s muscle cars still pack the same punch of the past but also come fully equipped with the latest technology, safety standards and conveniences. Here are our top affordable late-model muscle cars for those seeking tradition along with modern American muscle.
5th Generation Ford Mustang
In 2005 Ford unveiled the 5th generation Mustang, the latest incarnation of an American muscle car standard. The engine received upgrades in 2010 and 2011 and now push 305+ horse power. 5th Generation Ford Mustangs are assembled in Flat Rock, Michigan — meaning they’re literally born from the American muscle car ground zero. Pre-owned Mustangs as new as 2014 can be found for under $30,000 making them an excellent affordable muscle car choice. You can’t go wrong with a classic.
5th Generation Chevrolet Camaro
The 5th Generation Chevy Camaro is another excellent classic muscle car that has grown up with our nation. Now with options such as touch screen navigation, remote vehicle start, hill start assist, and 323 standard horsepower (2014), you’ll enjoy raw power and all the latest toys and tech. The 5th Gen Camaro also regularly sees MPGs in the upper 20s to lower 30s, making it a practical muscle car for the 21st century.
Chevrolet Corvette
2014 will see the Seventh Generation of Chevrolet Corvette and there’s plenty to be excited about. The 2014 uses an LT1 6.2L V8 engine packing whopping 455 bhp. The newest generation of this American classic also features a carbon fiber hood and removable roof panel. But, if you’re not quite ready to jump into the first model year of a new generation, the C6 models (2005-2013) are a great choice. Check out our showroom and you’ll see that the Chevy Corvette provides power within reach and can make an excellent, even affordable, muscle car.
Gen 3 Dodge Challenger
The Dodge Challenger is a great affordable muscle car option. Plus, they come with a HEMI.
